Writers Workshop for the Irish Researcher

Many of us spend years researching and gathering information of great value. Some of us are more organized than others. Some of us need help with that. It’s also vital that we share this information with others. If you want to put all of that research into a narrative form, so that other family members, present and future, can share in your discoveries, this workshop is for you.

Schedule and Presenters

9:00am: Registration & Welcome – Continental Breakfast is available with bakery-fresh muffins, Danish, bagels, scones and croissants, seasonal fresh fruit and yogurt. Assorted juices, coffee and tea are included.

9:30am: Between the Lines: Writing and Illustrating Your Family History By: Marcia Melnyk

10:30am: Question & Answer Period

Marcia Iannizzi Melnyk is a professional genealogist who has taught beginning and advanced genealogy courses for more than 18 years. She is the author of The Genealogist’s Handbook for New England Research, Fourth Edition, The Weekend Genealogist: Timesaving techniques for effective research, The Genealogist’s Question and Answer Book and Family History 101. Marcia is President, and a founding member, of The Italian Genealogical Society of America, a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), former executive board member of the New England Regional Genealogical Conference (NERGC) as well as many local and national societies.

12:30pm: Telling the Family Story - From Blogs to Scrapbooks By: Maureen Taylor

1:30pm: Question & Answer Period

For the past 10 years, Maureen A. Taylor has been providing in-depth analysis of historical photos, primarily for people who are researching their family histories.  In 2007, The Wall Street Journal called her “the nation’s foremost historical photo detective.”  Maureen’s books and articles focus on family photography, history and genealogy.

• Take Route 95/128 South to Trapelo Road, exit 28
• Turn left at top of exit ramp
• Follow Trapelo Road 2.6 miles toward Belmont
• Turn right onto Forest Street
• Proceed on Forest Street for .9 miles, the main entrance is on your left

DIRECTIONS TO BENTLEY FROM POINTS SOUTH

• Take Route 95/128 North to Totten Pond Road, Exit 27A
• At the end of the ramp, take a right and follow Totten Pond Road for 1.2 miles to the end
• Take a right onto Lexington Street and go .2 miles
• Then take a left onto Beaver Street; travel 1 mile (go around the rotary and continue on) and take a left onto Forest Street
• The main entrance is about .3 miles on your right

DIRECTIONS TO BENTLEY FROM POINTS EAST/BOSTON

• Follow Storrow Drive (west) or Memorial Drive (west) to the end and follow signs toward Arlington
• Bear left at the sign that reads “To 16 S Watertown/Waltham”
• Follow for .6 miles and turn right onto Belmont Street after passing the Star Market shopping center on the right
• Continue on Belmont Street until it intersects with Trapelo Road
• Bear right onto Trapelo Road and continue for 1.7 miles
• Take a left at the light and follow the sign that reads “60 Waltham to Rte. 20;” This is Waverley Oaks Road (Route 60)
• At the next traffic light, turn right onto Beaver Street
• Continue on Beaver Street past the tennis courts for .9 miles to Forest Street
• Turn right onto Forest Street and the main entrance is about .3 miles on the right

DIRECTIONS TO BENTLEY FROM LOGAN AIRPORT

• Take the Ted Williams tunnel to Route 90 (Mass Pike) and follow to Exit 14
• Take Exit 14, follow signs to Route 95/128 North
• Continue as directed below in “Directions from Points West”

DIRECTIONS TO BENTLEY FROM POINTS WEST

• Take exit 14 off the Massachusetts Turnpike
• Follow signs to Route 95/128 North
• Take Route 95/128 North to Trapelo Road, exit 28A
• Turn right at the end of the exit ramp
• Follow 2.6 miles toward Belmont
• Turn right onto Forest Street
• Proceed on Forest Street for .9 miles, the main entrance is on your left
